About Me: Deaf Kids & Teens Club is designed to assist deaf and hard of hearing children ages 9 to 18 years old in developing the necessary self-confidence and leadership qualities that will allow them to make the transition from the protected environment of the home and school into the world of young adulthood. Through the club activities, Deaf youth grow to understand and believe that
"Deaf people can do anything hearing people can do, except hear."
The DKTC meetings are held to plan, organize, and develop various projects and activities by the members of the program. The program aims to provide a balance of opportunities throughout the year for members to be involved in community projects, fundraising and social events. Additionally, a guest speaker is invited to present on various topics which have been selected by the program members. These representatives from the Deaf Community share examples from their own childhood experiences and serve as outstanding role models. After the leadership meeting and the presentation, the members enjoy various group activities to foster fellowship among each other.
All events are made accessible by providing total communication access. DKTC tries to fit the communication needs of each child by providing varying communication styles and tools, such as sign language interpreting, oral interpreting/transliterating, or alternative modes of communication.
